Victoria California Lilac

Ceanothus impressus 'Victoria'

This selection produces an extraordinary flush of fragrant blue flowers in summer that is remarkably rare in the shrub world, blue is one of the least common colours in flowering shrubs, and few plants deliver it as intensely as this one.

  • Dense clusters of tiny fragrant light blue flowers, one of the truest blues available in a hardy shrub
  • Semi-evergreen dark green leaves maintain colour into winter in warmer zones
  • Deep root system makes it drought-tolerant once established, despite its lush appearance
  • Hardy to Zone 7, worth protecting in colder zones for its exceptional and uncommon flower colour

Growing & Maintenance Tips
Plant in a well-drained soil, in full sun to partial shade. Deep tree-like roots make this selection drought-tolerant but difficult to move once established.  It needs regular water for the first year, but probably never after that. Any necessary pruning should be done soon after flowering to ensure the formation of the next year's buds.
