This large ornamental hazel with a strong pyramidal form is valued for its pendulous catkins in late winter, attractive summer foliage, and edible nuts produced in autumn.

Upright, pyramidal form, with horizontal branching and a strong, central leader.
Serrated, broad, ovate, semi-glossy, bright green leaves in the summer.
Fall foliage is an insignificant yellow.
Catkins are followed by spiny, husk-encased clusters of nuts.
Corky, tan bark on trunks may flake to reveal an orange-brown inner bark.
Commonly used for specimen.
Grows best in full sun to partial shade.
