Smooth Sumac

This native suckering sumac is valued for its large compound leaves, late-summer fruit clusters, and spectacular multi-coloured autumn display: a bold, low-maintenance shrub for naturalistic plantings and difficult sites.

• Clusters of reddish hairy fruit ripen late summer and may persist into the winter.
• Medium-green to dark green compound pinnate leaves are sometimes glossy.
• Fall colour is orange to red, sometimes purple.
• Suckering profusely, it produces a mound of mostly vertical branches.
• Best in full sun with moist, well-drained soil.
