Russian Sage, Azure Sage - Perovskia atriplicifolia

Russian Sage, Azure Sage

Perovskia atriplicifolia

Russian Sage creates an unmatched haze of violet-blue flowers and silver-gray aromatic foliage from August through October, later-blooming than most perennials, it bridges the gap between the summer and fall garden while combining exceptional drought and deer resistance.

  • Tiny violet-blue flowers on branched, tiered panicles create a soft, hazy cloud effect from late summer through fall
  • Heavily dissected silver-gray foliage is intensely aromatic, a natural deer deterrent
  • Shrub-like perennial with an informally spreading habit that softens adjacent plantings
  • One of the most reliably drought-tolerant perennials, thrives in average to dry soils once established

Growing & Maintenance Tips
Perovskia is drought-tolerant and dislikes winter wetness, growing best in an average to dry, well-drained soil, in full sun. In the fall, spent flower spikes can be pruned off for a tidier appearance. Note: Perovskia should not be pruned too far back until new growth emerges in the spring, and once the new growth appears, prune back to no lower than 30 cm.
