This narrow, columnar hackberry, an underused but highly adaptable native tree is valued for its tolerance of difficult urban conditions, distinctive corky bark, and the small berries it produces that are attractive to birds through autumn.

  • Narrow, columnar form, with almost vertical upswept branches.
  • Medium green leaves in the summer turn bright yellow in the fall.
  • Bark develops corky ridges, tan when young, turning gray at maturity.
  • Adapts well to drought and extreme heat and cold.
