Red-purple sweet pea-like flowers bloom profusely on bare branches and even on mature trunks
Fruit pods are brown and flat, about 5 cm long
Small green heart-shaped leaves turn an attractive yellow in the fall
Upright, weeping, sometimes with a contorted stem
Commonly used for naturalizing, woodland/woods edge, specimen
Grows best in full sun to partial shade
