Canada Yew, Ground Hemlock

A native groundcover conifer valued for its shade tolerance and fine-textured, dark green foliage, one of the few conifers that thrives beneath the canopy of mature deciduous trees.

• Dense, spreading habit with soft, flat needles in a rich dark green that remains attractive through winter
• Produces small, fleshy red arils (berry-like seed coverings) in late summer that attract birds
• Exceptional shade tolerance makes it ideal for underplanting beneath canopy trees or in woodland garden settings
• Naturally low-growing and mounding; well-suited to naturalizing slopes and shaded banks for erosion control
• Hardy native to Ontario and much of eastern Canada, well adapted to cold, humid conditions
• Toxic to humans and most livestock; berries are attractive to birds but should be kept away from children and pets
